British Values

British Values are promoted in much of what we do, during school assemblies, RE and PSHE sessions and they are integral to our vision and our own values.

These values align closely with our core principles of respect, honesty, and kindness, and are central to our ethos. We recognise that these values are not exclusive to Britain, but are shared by many of the cultures and communities represented in our diverse school.

Democracy

Democracy is a key part of school life. Pupils, parents, and staff have regular opportunities to voice their opinions, from voting for school council representatives to contributing through surveys and open discussions, reflecting the British electoral system.

Children are taught to listen respectfully and value the opinions of others, while parents are welcomed through our open-door policy and regular feedback opportunities. Democratic principles are also explored through curriculum topics such as Ancient Greece and Rome.

The Rule of Law

The importance of laws and rules is reinforced across the school, in assemblies, class discussions, and through visits from professionals such as the police.
Clear class routines and agreed expectations help create a safe, respectful learning environment. Children learn about the development and impact of laws through history and PSHE, building an understanding of justice and consequences.

Individual Liberty

We promote freedom of choice and the right to respectfully express views and beliefs. Our pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are taught how to exercise these safely, such as in our PSHE lessons.

Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

Our curriculum provides opportunities to learn about other faiths, beliefs and cultures. We serve an area which is culturally diverse and we are extremely proud to promote and celebrate our different backgrounds and beliefs (e.g. Black History Month, Eid, Diwali, Chinese New Year and more). Tolerance, politeness and mutual respect are at the heart of our aims and ethos.
